Hayao Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki is a great animation director, it was his movie Spirited Away that inspired me to get into animation. Not to long ago I found my college's stash of animation movies, which had all but 1 one Miyazaki's film (Porco Rosso). I was totally amazed, they kept me going even when I was very emotionally tired. I'm very thankful to him and the others that made all of the movies possible.

Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 His father was the director of Miyazaki Airplane during WW2(World War 2). During this time Hayao started to draw plans and grew fond of aviation(which you can see a lot in his movies).
He had no intention to get into animation but after seeing the movie Hakujaden (tale of the white serpent) he decided to become an Animator not a Mangaka (japanese Comic Author). In 1968 he was given the role of Chief animator of Hols: Prince of the Sun, the director of that film Isao Takahata would later appear in Hayao Miyazaki's life again.

In 1979 he would direct his first film Lupin the 3rd: Castle of Cagliostro.Which was raved as a success did poor in the box office. It wasnt until 1984 when Nasucaa of the valley of the wind was released would he find success. 3 facts, Nauscaa was released before the birth of Studio Ghibli and the company didnt think it would be good so they turned the movie idea down at first. But Hayao decided with a push from Toshio Suzuki created Nauscaa of the valley of the wind manga which would recieve enough attention that Hayao got the green light. The last fact is that Hideaki Anno, director of Neon Genesis Evangelion was given the job of creating the god warrior's attack sequence which was praised by Hayao Miyazaki.

6 years later Studio Ghibli is created and the rest is history.

Final Thought: GO OUT THERE AND WATCH A STUDIO GHIBLI MOVIE ESPECIALLY ONE OF HAYAO MIYAZAKI'S.

Racing Anime

Recently I re-discovered my love for vehicles and racing anime. So I went back and watched a few

IGPX
IGPX was an awesome anime, it is one of the few anime series that I was able to watch on toonami without catching the re-runs. I was overyenjoyed that they fused racing with mecha fights. Though I wish they picked a better voice actress for the character Liz, I like Melissa Rodriquez but I dont know if she was the fight fit for Liz. Well anyway if you haven't seen IGPX I suggest you do, I believe you can find all the episodes at animefreak.tv.

Rideback
I have to be honest I only watched this anime because it was on netflix and I was bored but I just fell in love with it. Rideback infuses a mecha with a motorcycle that has 2 forms. It takes place in a futuristic setting with Rideback's as a growing sport. The main character is Rin, a former dancer that discovered ridebacks one day and fell in love with ridebacking. It is pretty rare to see a girl as the main character for both a racing and mecha anime. If you would rather read and know japanese, Rideback has its own manga thats currently unavailable in english unless you look on mangafox (theres only 1 chapter in english but its 103 pages long) sssh! dont tell anybody ;)

Redline- Redline is an awesome movie from Madhouse Studios, the same people that made the Rideback anime. Redline in one critics review is stated as "Speed Racer on Crack" I truly agree with that statement. It has fights, alien worlds, cars with weapons, sexy women, and a ton of action Its a guy movie made in heaven. But dont worry ladies and gents there is even a little romance thrown itnto the mix. The main character is Sweet JP, a racer that drives a classic american car and has a classic japanese deliquent hair cut that reminds me of Ryo from Shaman King. There is a little nudity but not too much. I fell in love with this movie and I only wished it was longer.

My most hated Gundam Character

Saji Crossroad (Gundam 00)

Saiji was an alright minor character in the beginning of the series. He was a naive pushover who was at the becking call of his girlfriend. Over time he grew more annoying to me, he never stood on his beliefs even though I waited for him to do it. It become worse in the second season, he constantly cried and told everyone he didnt want anything to do with war. But because he made a cowardly move he is responsable for the deaths of many rebels that he gave up to the enemy. Even after that he still wouldnt admit to his faults. That's why Saji is on this list...

Top 5 saddest Anime Deaths

Here's my first post: Top 5 Saddest Anime Moments
Feel free to tell me your comments, I am new to this "blog" thing. Don't Check if your not prepared to read some spoilers.

5.  The Last Note of Light
         Death Note

Despite being the "evil guy" in the anime, he was a great character and I found myself rooting for him at every turn. To this day I have not read the manga ending or watched the anime's ending. Someone ruined it for me when they told me Light was killed and exposed to most of the world as Kira. But I might watch it to just end it. Light was very different compared to other main characters, he was the one commiting the crime. I have always rooted for the bad guy (Char Fan) and Light's death was not a good one for me.....

4. jiraiya's Last Story
       Naruto

As in Naruto fan I can tell you, we didn't see this coming though. The fight between him and pain was fantastic and emotional. We got used to seeing jiraiya doing all kinds of "pervy" things like peaking in the women's bath or checking out tsunade. He was one of my favorite naruto characters, it was a little sad to see him die. But I'm glad he died fighting and never stopped until his last breath....

3. L's Left the building
         Death Note
We all saw this coming but some of us didn't want to see it happen. I was not the biggest fan of L but I didn't like the way he "went out". He was very comical to me, always appearing in random places wearing no shoes, slightly slouched over, sitting on anything with his knees hugged to his chest while he bites his nails. But the fight between him and kira was epic. All of us will miss him...

2. The Tyrant Dies as Lelouch Vi Britannia
              Code:Geass

One of my most favorite characters, he was so fun to watch. In a way he reminded me of Amuro Ray in the sense they were both highly intelligent, strong, and died fighting to make their worlds a better one. I wished Lelouch would have stayed alive and got together with Kallen but the director made a good call and ended the anime with Lelouch's Death.

1. Ushio's Death
           Clannad: After Story

A very touching moment when this little girl dies, just shortly after she finally bonds with her father. To me it was a the heart-wrenching moment I've ever seen in an anime, it left me depressed all day. That's why it is number 1 on my list and will forever be number 1....
